It is my pleasure and honor as President to extend a hearty word of welcome, on behalf of the AITVM and its member institutions, to all the prospective participants of the 14th AITVM Conference to be held in South Africa in 2013. The Association of Institutions for Tropical Veterinary Medicine (http://www.aitvm.org/) (AITVM) is a foundation of 22 veterinary faculties and livestock institutes based in Africa, Asia and Europe. The objective of the AITVM is to improve human health and quality of life by means of increased and safe food production in tropical regions through enhancement of research, training and education in veterinary medicine and livestock production within the framework of sustainable development.
Every 3 years AITVM organizes an International Conference. In 2013 the 14th AITVM Conference will be hosted in Johannesburg, South Africa jointly by the Department of Veterinary Tropical Diseases (http://web.up.ac.za/vtd) (DVTD, South Africa) of the University of Pretoria and the Institute of Tropical Medicine (http://www.itg.be/) (ITM, Belgium). The aim of the AITVM conference is to bring together animal health and production experts as well as junior scientists from the North and South.
The prestigious Indaba Hotel near Johannesburg provides 4 star accommodation and conference facilities as well as a tranquil environment to interact and network with fellow participants.
I am looking forward to welcome you in South Africa in August 2013.
Prof Koos Coetzer
President of AITVM
